Festival

Orpheus Club holds the Festival Program for District 6 of the Illinois Federation of Music Clubs which is part of the National Federation of Music Clubs Festivals Program. Festival is held each year in early March. Festival provides students (age 18 and younger) the opportunity to perform and receive yearly evaluations in a non-competitive environment. Festival is open to instrumental or vocal students whose teachers are members of Orpheus Club. Each student prepares two pieces to perform for a panel of two judges and each student receives comments and a numerical score from the judges. The point value of a student’s score can be used for earning Gold Cups in the Gold Cup Program.  There is also a special category for adult students who would like to perform in Festival.

According to the NFMC website “participation in NFMC Festivals promotes music study, stimulates interest in the musical literature of both the USA and the rest of the world, and encourages each participant to reach a high standard of musical achievement.”

The festival date for 2024 is Sat., March 16 and Sun., March 17 and it will be held at the First Baptist Church in Bloomington, Illinois.

The Mary Linda Cox Festival Fund

Mary Frances Cox Hamby, the mother of Mary Linda Cox, is honoring Mary Linda's 37 years as a teacher of piano in Illinois and South Carolina by establishing this fund to encourage students and teachers to participate in multiple festival events, and to help defray expenses of Orpheus Club’s annual festival event. Teachers will work with their respective students every year to determine interest in registering for an additional festival event, and sharing the information about what events are available in addition to the Solo event.
